Several states have passed laws to allow official betting on sports. These laws allow bettors to legally place wagers on in-state college teams and professional sports teams. However, some states have remained resistant to official betting.
In Illinois, sports betting is now legal for those over the age of 21, as long as they do not live in Nevada. A new law was passed in June that will allow for in-person betting as well as mobile betting. The first legal sportsbook to take Illinois bets will be DraftKings Sportsbook.
FanDuel and DraftKings both have sports betting apps that are compatible with mobile devices. In Illinois, the two companies will take the first Illinois bets in August 2020. These sportsbooks will be available at casinos, horse tracks, and other retail sports betting facilities in the state.
DraftKings is also expected to gain the right to use the UFC’s trademarks, which will allow them to offer weekly free-to-play UFC games. DraftKings will also offer enhanced prop bets. This allows fans to bet on certain aspects of the game such as scoring, team scoring, and the number of points scored. The app also has a 4.7 composite star rating, the highest among the top betting apps in New York.
Illinois also allows sports betting on in-state professional sports teams. However, it will still be illegal to bet on college player props. Some states, including New York, Virginia, and West Virginia, have banned betting on this type of wager.
