Poker is a card game played for money. It is a game of chance, but it also involves skill and psychology. It is played with a standard deck of 52 cards (although some games use multiple packs or add jokers). The cards are ranked from high to low: Ace, King, Queen, Jack, 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3. There are four suits: spades, hearts, diamonds and clubs. The highest hand wins. Some poker variants use wild cards which can take on any suit or rank.

In a game of official poker, players must follow the rules of the game and protect their own cards. It is important to avoid revealing information that may give away the strength of your hand. This includes not reacting after folding your hand and not giving advice to other players, even if they ask for it. It is also against the rules to hide or cover your hand with your hands or chips, as this can mislead other players and create an unpleasant playing environment.

In a tournament game, all the player’s blinds or antes must be forced into the pot when they are dealt in. A player must be present to have a valid hand, but can request to see an opponent’s hand that has already been folded. This is a privilege and can be revoked if abuse occurs. The dealer will replace the exposed card if it is not requested before dealing the next cards.
