Official poker is a card game played for money (or chips that represent money). There are hundreds of variations of this popular game, which can be socially enjoyed for pennies or professionally for thousands. The game requires considerable skill and a good deal of luck, but the outcome of each hand is ultimately determined by the player’s decision-making and betting strategy.

During play, players may only speak in soft tones at the table. Ring tones, music, pictures and video are not permitted. Betting apps and charts must be positioned so that they do not disturb other players or the game, and must comply with house and gaming regulations. Players must be able to communicate with other players using standard betting terms, including but not limited to: bet, raise, call, fold and check; tapping the table is considered checking. Using regional or non-standard terms or gestures is at the player’s own risk and could result in a ruling other than what was intended.

Upon agreement among the players, a special fund called a “kitty” may be established for the purchase of new cards and other supplies. Upon the end of the game, any chips remaining in the kitty are distributed equally to the players still in the game. Any exceptions to this rule must be agreed to by the majority of players at the table.
