A poker game that is run according to rules established by a particular poker establishment. This could be a brick and mortar casino or an online poker room.

Stack – The amount of chips that are currently in play at a poker table. The term stack can also refer to the amount of chips a player has left over from their previous bets after a call or raise.

Add-On – An option to increase one’s tournament chip stack for a set price during the designated break in a poker tournament. This is generally used by players who wish to participate in a higher staked game than the starting stake.

Overcards – A pair of cards of a lower rank than another player’s pocket pair. For example, Ted has two overcards to Jill’s pocket pairs when they both hold three of a kind on the river.

The bubble – In a televised poker tournament when only six players will make the final table the last player finishing on the bubble is said to be “on the bubble”. This phrase can also refer to any situation near the payout structure in a multi-table tournament.

Official betting terms – Simple, unmistakable and time-honored declarations like bet, raise, fold, check, all-in, and pot (pot-limit only). Regional terms may also meet this criteria. Using non-standard terms and gestures is at a player’s risk and can result in a ruling other than what was intended.

Player etiquette – Observance of rules and guidelines for the proper conduct at a poker table as defined in Rule 2. Violations include: touching other players, cards or chips; displaying improper body language or gesturing; using foul and offensive language; maintaining poor card or chip visibility and countability; and excessive chatter.
