It wasn’t that long ago that you had to head to Nevada or an offshore sportsbook if you wanted to place a legal wager on USA sporting events. But the Supreme Court ruling in 2018 granted states the power to legalize sports betting if they choose and now there are more than 30 states and Washington, DC, that do so. The rest are kicking around the idea, and a few are still mired in disagreements.

Nebraska: Legal since 2021, although they aren’t currently accepting online bets. They did sign a six-year deal with DraftKings so their mobile platform will be available in the state. All betting on in-state collegiate games and events, including player prop bets, is prohibited.

New Hampshire: Legal since the second day of 2020. Brands like FanDuel Sportsbook (launched in partnership with the Washington Football Team), DraftKings, BetRivers, William Hill, and BetMGM are all live in the state, as well as the Hard Rock. Unibet, Bally Bet, and bet365 are also on the horizon. All but the Greenbrier brand are partnered with tribal casinos in the state, which is one reason the state only allows sports betting on-premises at those locations.

North Dakota: Not yet legal, although legislation has been proposed. A judge ruled that the agreement between the state and Seminole tribe was illegal, so a new compact may not be approved until summer of 2023.
