The Supreme Court’s repeal of PASPA enables states to regulate and offer sports betting. The industry is booming, generating billions in bets and revenue for the states that allow it. The sport’s professional leagues have embraced the opportunity to build marketing partnerships and establish integrity monitoring agreements with sportsbooks.

New Hampshire was among the first states to launch regulated sportsbooks following the Supreme Court’s ruling. Its sports betting launched in December 2019 with retail options available at eight locations and online sportsbooks at a dozen sites. DraftKings is the exclusive online provider of New Hampshire sports betting. The Garden State was one of the first states to launch legal sports betting after the Supreme Court’s PASPA ruling, with retail sportsbooks opening in June 2018 and online betting sites going live in August. New Jersey’s sports betting market features dozens of different apps from major providers, including BetRivers and FanDuel.

The National Hockey League (NHL) does not have a formal policy on sports betting, but the NHL’s collective bargaining agreement includes a clause that states “gambling on any NHL game is prohibited.” Players and those working for the league are also banned from placing bets while they are at team or league facilities or on the road with their teams.
